Katja Herbers has been a professional performer since she was a small girl. She is the daughter Vera Beths (violinist) and Werner Herbers (oboist). Growing up she spent time in America along with her mother's tours with chamber music group L'Archibudelli. The woman she married was cellist Anner Bylsma and her father was remarried to costume designer Leonie Poliak, who introduced her to the theatre. Her au pair was Canadian and she was able to learn Dutch German, English and German when she was a young. Herbers completed her studies at her school, the Ignatius Gymnasium. She was a psychology student at the University of Amsterdam. During her psychology studies she was a student at the local theatre schools De Trap. When she moved to New York she studied at the HB Studio. They accepted her into the Theaterschool Amsterdam. She starred in Pietje Bell as well as Brush with Fate while studying.
